In Loving Memory of George "Mr. Spoons" Gully

Let yourself be carried away to another time by the outstanding talent of Mr. Spoons. Mr. Spoons shared his life-long love of spoon playing with his audiences. He's played venues from Madison Square Garden to Mt. St. Mary College.Mr. Spoons entertained people with his mastery of musical cutlery for over 75 years! Even at 81, he didn't slow down much.

On November 9th, 2010, George "Mr. Spoons" Gully passed away from complications of diabetes. Before he was Mr. Spoons, he was a loving husband to his wife Jean of 60 years and a caring, fun father to five children and eight grandchildren. He is sorely missed, and will never be forgotten.

Being the committed performer that he was, Mr. Spoons summoned the strength to perform in public one more time before his death. He was out of the hospital for only a few days and still in much pain when he performed last, singing Old Bones, both recorded live and in the studio. He was hospitalized for the last time just days after this performance. With indomitable spirit, he left his family and the world a beautiful legacy which can be viewed below.

In honor to his life and courage in death, a foundation has been set up in Mr. Spoons name, The George "Mr. Spoons" Gully Foundation. Its purpose and goal is to teach school age children the lost art of playing the spoons as a musical instrument, and to promote music through the fun and interactive process of playing the spoons. We feel it is important to keep Mr. Spoons memory and spirit alive by keeping his legacy going.

Throughout his life, nothing brought George Gully more pleasure than bringing this art to young children, first his own, then the worlds. Whenever children were present in his audience, Mr. Spoons would spot them and start making his way towards them. Inevitably, the kid(s) would wind up having the spoons played on their heads and bellies by Mr. Spoons, much to their enjoyment. After the show, he always found time to show them how to hold and play the spoons. He got pleasure from this. He would often speak of how their little faces would light up upon hearing and seeing the spoons played for the first time. Thats what it was all about to him, making people smile and passing on this wonderfully old and easy to master talent.

This Foundation has been set up in his name in the hopes of providing instruction and spoons to children in schools and hospitals all over.

The George "Mr. Spoons" Gully Foundation is a non-profit organization, 100% of every donation will be applied directly to purchasing spoons and materials necessary for providing instructions for children.
